The overall objective of SPPG is to support the development and implementation of effective national social protection policies and programmes that are responsive to the needs of people in poverty, including older persons, children and persons with disability.

- Actively participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of national social protection plans and policies
- To stimulate and promote national debates on social protection determining appropriate and affordable national minimum packages
- Articulate social protection needs and promote and advocate for efficient and effective allocation of Social Protection resources.
- Strengthen the capacity of local CSOs to effectively advocate for critical issues affecting the vulnerable groups and ensure that their activities are consistent with relevant national social protection policies.
- Mobilise resources to support the work of CSOs in The Gambia to effectively implement their social protection programmes;
- Share best practices and lessons learnt on issues of social protection among CSOs, Government and private sector actors.
- Facilitate the coordination of social protection programs between social protection activities or organizations.
- Build effective alliances with other social protection networks at regional and global levels.
